Shapeshifting
A Shamanic Journey to Nepal and Tibet
June 7 – June 24, 2004
We joined John Perkins, author of the highly acclaimed book, Shapeshifting: Shamanic Techniques for Global and Personal Transformation and Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, on a unique 18-day journey to Nepal and Tibet. A profound journey to the ancient world of Shambala affected our lives in profound ways. Shapeshifting is a unique experiential training process that is accomplished on three levels: cellular, personal and institutional. It teaches methods of transforming the energy of thoughts and imagination into energy that shapes the physical world.
"We plan on focusing on conscious-raising and healing during the Tibet trip.
Will do workshops around that and how Tibetan shamanism ties in with it.
We will use the land and local teachers in this process, being very open to spirit guidance.
When we went to Ladakh, everything came our way, lamas, rinpoches, oracles, shamans,
and even the Dalai Lama who invited us to sit with him on a plane flying to India
and then to join him there in his home. Expect magic!" - John Perkins
This 18-day intensive experiential program began in Nepal, where we prepared
for the workshop at the sacred sites in Kathmandu and Lumbini, Buddha’s birth place. As luck would have it, the Dalai Lama of the Bon sect of Tibetan Buddhism also happened to be visiting the Kathmandu monastery on his way to Tibet! We again met him on the plane and had a chance to interview him on film while waiting at the airport.
Our journey then continued to the mystic land of Tibet or the "Roof of the World". During the 10 days in Tibet, we visited exotic gompas (monasteries) and power vortexes amidst the fluttering of prayers flags and surrounded by sacred mountains. Aided by music, drumming, fire, huacas (sacred items), we were introduced to ancient indigenous Tibetan healing techniques that John Perkins had learned from Shamans. We spent a night at the first monastery of Tibet in Samye and got there by crossing a river and a desert. We climbed up to the caves where Padmasambhava (the bringer of Buddhism into Tibet in the 7the century) had meditated for years while Samye was being constructed. In Lhasa we spent time at the awesome Potala Palace and watched the young lamas debate in their monastery. The lamas helped in drumming while we journeyed in the Nechung temple, well known as a abode of Tibetan We did a vision quest in the open dry spaces of Shigatse, and ended the tour with a powerful fire ritual at the Kumbum temple in Gyantse during the Summer Solstice.
